Create Sand Art

Follow the instructions below to create your own sand art bottle!

Materials Needed:

Colored sand in various colors
A clear, empty bottle with a tight-fitting lid (like a plastic water bottle)
A small funnel or a rolled-up piece of paper
A spoon or scoop
Glue to seal the bottle (optional)

Step 1

Place the funnel on the bottle's opening or use a rolled-up piece of paper as a makeshift funnel. Choose a color to start with and spoon some sand into the funnel. Gently tap the bottle to settle the sand.

Step 2

Add different colors of sand, one at a time, to create layers.

Step 3

Demonstrate to the child how the bottle can make patterns in the sand by gently tapping or shaking it. Encourage experimentation, but be careful to maintain the layers by keeping the container mostly upright.

Step 4

After filling the bottle, screw on the lid firmly. You can also glue the lid.
